365 Entrepreneur: Keepers of Culture
Day 108
On this day, 9/1/2021 we dedicate the 365 Entrepreneur column to the collective of individuals that are all involved in the Keepers of Culture mural.
The Keepers of Culture mural installed on the Stutz building in downtown Indianapolis was formally dedicated on Wednesday, September 1st. The mural was designed to honor eight individuals that make it their business to maintain and move forward the culture Indianapolis. Honorees include (left to right):
Maxie - artist and owner of Nap or Nothing
Mariah Ivey - artist and founder of That Peace Open mic
Rob Dixon - celebrated jazz musician
Mike Epps - comedian, author and actor
Vivica A Fox - actress and author
Amos Brown - late, great community leader and radio personality
Deborah Asante - founder of Asante Children's Theater
Le’Deana - creator of Midwest Leak Magazine
The 3D mural, created by Ashley Nora, is the permanent component to Butter: A Fine Arts fair which will be showcasing black artists September 2-5th. Butter is unique in that the show will be selling the art of both homegrown and nationally renowned black artists with 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the art going directly back into the hands of the artists. Butter is a concept created by GangGang partners Mali Jeffers and Alan Bacon and supported by sponsors such as AES.
